I am certain you will have all the ingredients you need to make this apple pie filling recipe in your kitchen. It is simple to make and very tasty. I actually couldn't stop eating it while it was cooling down, it tasted that good.

The best apples to use are Braeburn apples due to their sweetness and tartness but they also hold their shape when cooked.

This recipe is simple and easy to follow and you can make your own apple filling in no time at all. Try it yourself and let me know what you think in the comments.

Apple Pie Filling

Prep time: 15 minutes                    Cook time:  5 minutes        Makes:  1 for one pie

Ingredients

70g of Light brown sugar

70g of Granulated sugar

5g of Butter

8 Apples - peeled and cut into slices

1 Lemon - juiced

2 tbsp of Cornstarch

2 tbsp of Water

1 tsp of Nutmeg

1 tsp of Cinnamon

1/2 tsp of Vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

Equipment

Saucepan

2 Mixing bowls

Wooden spoon

Jug

Method

  1. In one of the mixing bowls place the apple slices and pour over the lemon juice, ensuring all the apple slices are coated  to prevent the apples browning.

2) Add the sugars, nutmeg and cinnamon to the apple slices and stir with the wooden spoon to cover all the apple slices. Cover with cling film and leave for 30 minutes in the fridge.

3) On the hob begin to heat the saucepan with the butter. Once the butter has melted add the apple slices along with the vanilla extract, cornstarch and water. Stirring occasionally. Leave the apples on a medium heat to boil and go soft or to the tenderness preferred.

4) Allow the apple filling to cool before using in a pie. Place the filling into a sealable container and in the fridge until required will keep for up to 4 days.

5) Enjoy!
